Environmental Protection

In recent years, most trees have been wiped out for charcoal and cooking purposes without much thought to the future. This has resulted in climate change and persistent drought in districts like Luweero, Nakasongola, and northern Uganda, mostly due to deforestation.

Since 2007, farmers in the four villages of Ssenyomo, Namakofu, Bulanzi, and Ndagga in Luweero District have planted over 2,000 trees including mango, orange, tangerine, jackfruit, and avocado.

Among other species planted are coffee (a cash crop) and pine trees/eucalyptus, which are known for their value in producing income and in many cases can be used for construction purposes and electricity poles.
